Hola musicos de CRT,

It has come to my attention that there are a number of professional/semi-pro/retired pro musicians who are members of our esteemed group.

I am trying to compile a list of players. Perhaps a CRT Jam could be part of the Labor Day Weekend festivities. Please add your name, instrument(s) played, styles and whether or not you read music to the list I'm starting on this thread. Even if we don't get a chance to jam, it might be cool to know each other as players, rather than just as "players," if you know what I mean.

Please reply to this thread only if you've been paid for playing music. I'm going to sound like an elitist prick, but karaoke/shower singers, or guys who specialize in late-night organ solos... start your own thread. This thread is for the guys who have played gigs, eaten lousy road food and have banged at least one groupie for free.

Not sure yet whether I will be there...but if I am this would be an interesting jam session. Just imagining the kind of "groupies" that will be hanging around this aging group of rock and roll stars .

I played my first Holiday Inn pianobar gig at 18 while still a sr in highschool. That got me in trouble with my church organist job so when forced with a choice...I chose jazz, blues and R&R as a long hair in the mid 70s. I gave up the biz when 20 years later they were offering me the same money per hour I got playing live gigs at 18. No financial future. I do currently have a keyboard in Costa Rica that I havent transported to Panama yet, so, if I can make it, I can provide a nice 88 key weighted action piano/keyboard.

Don't pay attention to these fellows jiving you. Actually that is a good and creative idea. Something to liven up the next get together. Probably a lot of talent amongst us. Old Circus would join in but hell, it's been over 40 years since I played the drums. I could sing a tune or two....Okay, I can see the laughing chorus of members, " OH NO, CIRCUS SINGING!!!!"

Hell, I tried to get the Admin to let us have a 50+ member circle jerk for the 2006 party but after he considered egos and already worn out peckers my suggestion was turned down. Guess I'll just have to have my own private one in the storage room at the Pres and just feel lonely again. lol

I've been a drummer since I was 16 yrs old, almost 30 years. Played in a band for 12 years, back in the day. Also did some work in the studio. I hung up my sticks about 10 years ago, due to family and business obligations.

But..... last year my son wanted to learn to play, so my wife signed him up for drum lessons at the local music store. I drove him to a couple lessons, and I sat in to watch what they were teaching him. After watching, I decided that I didn't want to pay some part-time guitar player to teach my son to play drums. Plus, this gave me a great reason to buy a new set, and start playing again myself. So, I went and bought a kick-ass 8 piece set (for him of course), with all the bells and whistles, and started teaching him myself.

Even after a 10 year hiatus, it's all come back to me!

EC, If you can make this jam session happen, I'd be more than happy to play. But I think the hard part will be finding a guitar, bass, keyboard and drum set in CR. But if you can find 'em, let's rock! I think it'd be a lot of fun! Come to think of it....I don't think I ever had a latina groupie!!!

I am a newbie and CR virgin, but I am a semi-pro musician (of sorts).

I play Bass guitar in a Death Metal/Grindcore band. We have released two CD's independently and both have been sold in several countries in limited quantities. We play live regulary and do get paid, although there is not a lot of money in underground Metal. I do not read music, I am self taught.

I plan to give up this style of music soon, and it is my intention to take up drums and when I get good enough I will form a band to play traditional Irish music which I was raised on and still love very much.

Put me down for guitar and/or keyboards (I'll bring my axe), classic rock/R&B, with the Beatles catalog as my specialty. After five gin and tonics or so, I might contribute some vocals....

Has anyone mentioned the displeasure of having the locals play at SL to Bill?

I'm sure he would rather adhere to the desires of his paying customers than concern himself with offending the musicians, unless of course they are relatives of his wife.

HAY!!! I started playing drums when I was 13 on Beal Street in Memphis. 45 YEARS! GOD -----am I really that old Sounds like we could have a hell of a Jam if we could get the instruments. I went to Berklee College of Music in 1972 ,72 ,74. Played on the road for 24 years and still cain't quit! I am the house drummer for the Ozark Blues Society and have a local band here in Fayetteville. You can check out our web site if you want. Haven,t up-dated it in a while Anyway, Love to get a Jam up! I checked the American group deal and the fare is onle $485 from Arkansas. I am planning on flying in the end of August and staying a week. This will be my 1st trip also! Hope we can all hook up even if we cain,t get the Jam up. Surely there is a few Bass players around And Guitar players! EC, Let me know if I can help. Do not know if there are any music stores in San Jose , but I figure there must be. Wonder if they do equipment rentals??

THere are a couple stores I know in SJ who rent PAs and instruments. OF course, if this turns into a heavy metal, heavy drum sticks, loud session...I may have to bring an extra powerful amp for my Keyboard . But it sounds like most of the responders here can handle some cover Beattles and easy rock tunes. After all, I havent played "Proud Mary" in over 20 years ...

I made my living as a guitarist/vocalist from about 1970 to 1984, and part time up until I moved here in '04. My roommate is a vocalist who does the best AC/DC impersonation you'll hear this side of Australia. My own styles are basically anything a person might have made money with during the aforesaid period, from Dean Martin to Little Richard to Buck Owens to Ted Nugent. I ain't afeard o' nothin'. (except a lighted match)

I have a guitar, bass and keyboard here in San Jose along with a mic or 2 and a PA top and some stands. I sing and play lead guitar and bass well, so I'm told. As far as groupies go, I had my share back in the day.

Anyway, if something gets put together let me know. I live here, not far from the SL.
