A special bulletin from
AM Costa Rica late this afternoon.
Quote:
To our readers,
The Volcán Poás had an small expulsion of mud and gas today, Friday, in the principal crater, and emergency officials are meeting Saturday to determine if any action should be taken.
At this point, the overlook used by tourists is not affected, but there is concern, even though such activity is considered normal. The activity was confined to the crater in an area of about 150 feet in diameter, said officials.
Poás, north of San José, is one of five major active volcanoes in the country.
We are sending this message not because we fear an emergency but because tourists and visitors might find some inconvenience if access is restricted. The volcano is on the agenda of most Central Valley visitors.
