It takes a little work, but you can get a bit of an idea about the age of the photo. References made to the photo within the forum is a good indicator - requires a little work though.
The old pic gallery is the one with archive next to the link.
The higher the ID number, the newer the picture so picture 1 is old and picture 3244 is relatively new.
Also, for new photos posted to the new gallery, when you put your cursor over the thumbnail, you'll see a link at the bottom of the browser (if not turn status bar on for IE) where the date posted is in the name of the picture (foto=).
