Favorita status is a hybrid between amiga and novia. My good friend in Buenos Aires has this down to a science. A novia is entitled to the following benefits:

1. She 'gets' to stay the night

2. He cooks for her regularly (he has worked as a chef)

3. If she is present at the club, he will not take any other chica from there that night (he may not take her, either, but he definitely won't take anyone else)

4. If she achieves "super favorita" status, he won't take anyone else from the same club on any night, even if she's not working. Keep in mind there are a handful of top-tier clubs in BA.

5. He guarantees 1 night of business per week, and the average is 2. Of course, he only pays around $40, but regular business is regular business...

Recently, a former favorita got a bit tipsy and expressed that she had fallen "deeply" in love with him. Of course, he didn't move all the way to Buenos Aires to have a novia or an esposa, so she has been banned from future favorita status as well as his lasagna dish.

LVS...hilarious.

I should comment but, I'll be damned if I know the answer. I will say if you are in the market for a novia check with VB first. Then, take his advice.

I have a favorita in MX. I always go to see her when I am there, but I do carry on other dalliances.

I now have a novia in CR. 2 solid weeks of noone but her. And it was all good...no...great. Never needed pharmaceutical help... Got to know the country so much better ( yes we did leave San Jose). This is someone I met on my first trip, and the relationship has only gotten better after three trips.
It's not for everyone, and possibly not for 95% of the esteemed members here, but it is working for me.

RW..it worked for me for almost 2 years. But, if all things hold true eventually people show there true personality. I'm not saying it's necesarily bad. But, is it worth persuing for something more LT? Or is she just a good lay when you are in CR? We folk up here in gringoland are just a little different than in South and Central America. Maybe it will work for you, let's hope. BTW, I was over on the ISOC board and I still want you to hook me up with your avatar. That would definately drive me to the Dominican for a trip. Hook a brother up! :-)

I have a novia now, but there are no guarantees in life. She's great all around, and I'll see her as long as it makes sense. Sin Problemas. I just no longer care for the endless interview and keeping one eye open at all times.

As far as AMJ ( las tetas de DR) I'm not sure where she is now. We haven't spoken for almost a year. Last I heard she was a "hostess" at El Caucho (or something like that). That place is in Boca Chica.

Believe it or not, since I'm currently attending a Spanish school in San Jose, I'm learning a whole host of new terms.

One local slang term for a girlfriend with potential is amigovia. It should fill the gap folks are looking for between amigo meaning casual friend and novia, meaning very serious relationship.

Use this term with great freedom and avoid the perils of calling your new aquaintance a novia with all that implies.

Rob, the nuevo estudiante de espanol.
