How should a veteran CR guy handle this newbie?
Dapanz1, you are the devil in disguise. Bring him and introduce him to all the vices available in CR. 41%  41%  [ 20 ]
Bring him but hold him by the hand and give him sage advice 22%  22%  [ 11 ]
Discourage him from going. Tell him CR really sucks and that I've been lying to him about my fun. 8%  8%  [ 4 ]
Tell him I'm not going and we'll hook up another time and place. 2%  2%  [ 1 ]
Go along with his decision to go or not go. But, make a disclaimer that I hold myself harmless. 27%  27%  [ 13 ]

Dapanz, do the disclaimer. On a recent trip I was faced with a similiar situation. Sometimes its nice to get away by yourself . I have had the experience where I was followed around like the guy was my shadow. To make matters worse, he spoke No spanish, then you become translator, photographer and guide 24/7.

Tell him ahead of time that you will provide some leadership and show him the lay of the land, but will need to get away by yourself on occassion.

Good luck bro from Il.

Just talked to him an hour ago. Still up in the air, he will give me his final answer on Monday. In a way, I hope he can't go. Either way is cool with me.

I hear what you're all saying, but you have to help a brother out. On my first trip to CR I hooked up with friend I've known since childhood, don't see him to often anymore, but he still hangs with my bro, heard he was going through some tough times and needed to get away. When I find out his problems I suggested a trip to CR, I've wanted to go for a while but had no one who I thought would partake in such activites. He doesn't speank any spanish, i'm fluent, and off we went. We had the time of our lifes. And ever since we've been back I've been spending a lot of time hanging out with him, when we get to talking my bro can see things have changed between us two, CR changed both are views on gringas, american, and life in general. We're heading back next month and can't wait. It's good to have someone watch your back... tell you when you're spending to much time with "one" Tica, when there's a plethera to be had... And no matter how hung over I was he made me get out of bed in the morning so we could do it all over again. Thank god, otherwise I would have slept have my days away in CR.

If you're friend is having problems, put your needs a side for a bit, and help him out.

Well, the burden has been lifted. My buddy has to start his job on October 24th with the new firm. I will not be back to the US until the 24th. He was planning on coming back the 23rd, however, he is flying out to Denver on that day. So, thanks for all the responses. We did however plan a date in December. The brotherhood has spoken and I will be the devil in disguise. I will show him everything under the Costa Rican sun. He's a big boy and will be able to make his own decisions.
