Sploooga is a word that was created by one of us(either Jizlick or Sir Splooge) on the old CRS board. It started as a descriptive word to describe their trip which they called a "Splooge fest" .
I guess its just a silly word that hung around and reminds me of the good old days.

I also miss the restaurant that was on the second floor (on the runway side) in the airport. That was good food! No one's mentioned the bar they used to have on the second floor (on the front side). I miss that as well. It was somewhat small, but I had some wild and enjoyable (as well as sad) times there with some chicas! Ahh...the memories :)

and of course, Tiny`s.

I had forgotten about Tiny's American Bar. The building has been torn down.

The last I heard was that Tiny had some health issues and had moved back to South Florida. Anyone know anything about him?

Losing the old airport bar and restaurant was just awful. About 2-3 years ago the airport authorities farmed out ap management to the corporate types (Aqilla Management, I believe is its name), and the first thing to go was the bar and restaurant upstairs. I used to not mind so much getting stuck at the airport when it was there. Good food, a view of the mountains from the second floor AND a real bar, with tv's where you could always watch a soccer game with the locals and drink at reasonable prices. Since they closed it, there's also not been a decent place to have a smoke while having a drink. They have a little outdoor bar in the new area, but its twice as expensive, no a/c, small, no television, etc. Although the airport looks more modern, little was gained, and our bar was lost.

After Tiny sold the bar, he went back to Michigan. He was in pretty poor health then and I have not heard any news of him in quite some time.
Tiny`s American Bar was quite a place for a long time and I miss it a lot.

Thanks for your impute Dongordo. Tiny was a San Jose fixture for many years. Hope he is well and enjoying life in Detroit or Ft. Lauderdale, wherever he went back to.

Speaking of old time characters someone in town last week told me he saw "Sailor Bill" imagine that. I thought he had passed from the scene years ago but I guess not.

DING / DG;
I MISS BREAKFAST AT TINY'S. IT WAS LIKE 7 OR 8 HUNDRED COLONES AND THE CONVERSTATION WITH TINY WAS FREE. I GET A PING, EVERYTIME I GO BY WHERE THE BUILDING ONCE STOOD.

Hey guys,

Does anyone remember (95-98) a pont tailed gringo(hair slicked back) who would sit at the bar dressed in a jacket without a shirt??

He used to be there all the time. Wonder if he is still there?

You are talking about Garfield...I haven`t seen him in quite a while...
the story goes that he comes from the Baskin-Robbins family and they paid him quite well to remain away from the family.

I started going to CR back in 1987 or so and spent 6 months down there with an Army Task Force as their Civil Affairs officer. I speak Spanish and actually only resorted to a pro once while I was down there, as I was dating a bartender at the KL.

I even drove over from Panama once, I don't recommend that as the road on the CR side is horrible.

Other than that, I was hooked up with a doctor in Pueto Jimenez, a crazy red headed party girl and several others. The bartender from the KL got married to a British soldier that was visiting from Belize, I dnn't know what happened to the doctor nor the party girl, but the way she was going, I should have referred her to the doctor.

Back then only the bold traveled to the CR and the place had a more international feel to it. The most you would pay would be 40 bucks and could sometimes get away with less. The Ticas all dressed more modestly and there were no foriegn sex workers.

Hey, Tim! That's you chiming in here on the old threads -- great!-- we had our chat at the DR bar where you told me about those months in CR. Good to see you here. As I recall, you were talking about eventually settling in CR?

Diego, good to find you here. I was at the Sportman's Lodge and joined CRTs at the computer in the lobby as I wanted to attend the party at Zona Azul. I went down there with Bill and they let me right in. It was a good party, but there was a run on certain girls.

I enjoyed talking with you at the DR and saw you at SL, but you were otherwise engaged, so I went in and order th Gringo breakfast. As it stands now, I can't decide whether I will settle down in CR, Nicaragua or even Argentina. By the way, I am heading back down to CR in January and probably hit Guanacaste for some diving. Take care.
