This won't affect your son VB, but its at least a little bit more on topic:
Traveler Alert: Passport Processing Delays Due To Hurricane Katrina
New Orleans has a major passport-processing center but its Passport Agency is closed until further notice. If you recently applied for a passport but are not traveling within the next six weeks, or if you applied AFTER August 25 you won't need to take any further action as your application will be transferred to other processing centers.
If you applied BEFORE August 25 from any of the following areas:
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia (except certain D.C. suburbs), Wisconsin, Puerto Rico, Southern California (all counties south of and including San Luis Obispo, Kern and San Bernardino), Nevada (Clark County only), New York City and Long Island,
and are traveling within six weeks, contact the National Passport Information Center at 877-487-2778 (TDD/TTY 888-874-7793 for hearing impaired) to get specific information on the best way to proceed under your specific circumstances. DO NOT use the Online Status-Check service at the U.S. Government Passport site
www.travel.state.gov as the status of your application information may not be correct, although you may visit that site for other information or updates.
