Time to start making travel plans for december. Does anybody know for sure what the dates of this years festival de la luz in san jose are? It's beginning to feel a lot like christmas.

A couple of months ago, I threw out a question on this and I never got a reply http://www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6761&start=2. I was in SJ for the last Festival de Luz. It was interesting but if I'm ever there again at that time of year I doubt I'll bother with it again. I hate being in huge crowds like the parade attracts and couldn't get that great a view of the floats anyway. What I proposed in that old thread was that if you want to see the parade probably the best and only way to really see it is from a elevated room overlooking the parade route. The question that was never answered, was on the possibility of renting a room for just that evening at one of the hotels along the route, specifically the Ambassador, Royal Dutch or perhaps the Gran Hotel. Has anyone stayed at these hotels that can comment as to chica-friendliness, whether (and which) rooms have a good view of Paseo Colon or Avenida 2? I'm not saying anyone has to stay at those hotels for their whole trip or even sleep there that night, but perhaps it might be a possibility to rent a room with a view for one night and throw a parade party.

I think your best bet for a good view would be the Ambassador. Any of the street side rooms have a great view of Paseo Colon. And yes they are chica friendly.
