it started to rain and I flagged down a taxi, they're red and easy to see.
I got in the front seat and told him my destination. Off we went.
Me: no tiene Maria? (You don't have a meter?)

Me: Sos pirata? (Are you a gypsy cab driver?)
Driver: no

We get to my house
Me: Te parece dos mil? (how about 2,000? About the normal rate)
Driver: Si, Pura Vida.
Me: Pura vida.

.... Flagged down a red car, he gave me a ride home. How cool is that?

Cool people ARE around. Still be careful, tho.

Pura vida!!! People are amazing there, I was lucky enough to be introduced to some people and I went to their homes and hung out, they are just cool.

aw Jeez ... there are horror stories down in the cellar of this forum about wandering into barrios. However, you are latino, so you are better equipped than gringos for that type of adventure. Pasty-skinned gringos should think twice before heading into the different barrios. Not sayin "don't do it", just sayin KNOW what yer doing.
