Used uber regularly in chicago. I've found most fit under one of these three categories. A) retirees doing it supplement income. B) coming from terrible inner city neighborhoods trying to do it full time. C) Stay at home Mom's trying to make a few extra bucks while the K*ds are in school

Have had very good luck, my use has been limited to the downtown area. Had a couple major bad experiences with drivers who didn't know where they were going. Luckily I always do. lol

Had another good experience with a medellin friend in town this weekend going to and from the James Taylor/Jackson Browne concert. Got my friend from wrigley field to burnham harbor for under $20 during a surge

Have yet to tey uber in medellin or any other foreign countries. I do use easy taxi quite often in Medellin. Very reliable and extremely secure.

Two points.

1). Never argue with a chica about transportation. Especially a highly intoxicated one

2) If a paisas lips are moving. Never trust what's exiting her mouth.

Re uber. Love it. I use it all the time when I travel, and I love it in Panama City. But to speak to why people are uber drivers, I will share this one item. I use uber all the time when I travel to Miami. Many times my drivers have been very intelligent men and women who had come to Miami from all over the world...but could not find work in their professions here in the states. So they became uber drivers. I enjoyed speaking with them about their countries. They are happy to have clean work that pays them an okay wage while they settle in here. It seemed like a big win win. That's just Miami, but I think it shows why uber is huge.
