He reportedly skipped-out on a $3.5 million debt to the MGM Grand and $1.8 million to the Venetian (both publicly traded corporations, not mob operations). These debts were just two among many others. Given his pattern of behavior he likely owed a bundle to some people / outfits with very heavy collection agencies, perhaps not just in Nevada.

Several different online articles about Ed Chopot's troubles are available by doing a Google News search of his name including one (accessible only with subscription) with the headline "Friends fear 'Mob hit' settled debts."

Thank you for posting this article. At least now we know that it wasn't just a random act of violence committed by Ticos looking for money. This man's appartment is near where I live so I was concerned.

When I saw big time gambler, I thought no, not v.b.!!! By the way my camera is fixed, I will be camping on your doorstep, in Sept. looking for $58.25...thank god for xtended warranty!!!!
