Prolijo and Mente are right on target.
Currently I have 3 GFE types.

One is not a pro, and is genuinely in school.
I pay her her tuition (to the school, not to her) and she is attending, and getting top grades.
She does not know I am paying, she thinks she has a scholarship.
Well, I guess she does!

The other 2 got real vague when I pressed them for details on which school,
what subjects, school hours, etc.
It turns out that one has a 4th grade education, the other 5th grade.
Neither is a student.
That didn't stop them asking for tuition money, books, etc.

I will pay bills directly, but will never send money.
If I feel like I need to do something extra I take them to the supermarket and fill the pantry.
Even then, it is amazing how they want me to buy some many non-food items.

Some things don't seem to change, don't matter where you go. I have a gringa 'amor' here, and when I am invited to her house for dinner, the first stop is the supermarket. Now that I know the game, the non-food items that go into the cart seem to slow down as soon as I start to scowl

Let me tell you, a good scowl can save you some real dough. I'm starting to think that gringas and Latinas are not that much different, except for the lousy sex, the whining and greed, the domineering attitude and the gold lined pussies, well there's hardly any difference at all
