@Scuba....I understand it's his opinion (thanks for explaining that), but I'm just asking how I'm different from others who have been going there as he suggested. Not a tough question. I have my opinion, I just want to see if we agree. I doubt we will....

You are making too much of a random comment - what the Phuck do you care his opinion; highly doubt its gonna change the way you feel about or see yourself (I've read some of your other posts - like me you have some strong opinions so not a shot there; its a compliment :) ) - he explained what he was talking about; I highlighted it for you.

Again, his opinion - not gonna change yours - and as a traveler to CR for 15+ years, as well as a long time board member, I know exactly what he's talking about.

I made it to quite a few of those unofficial happy hrs. back when I started coming to sjo in '04. I usually traveled without wingy's back then so it was a great way to meet some (usually) good guys who had chicas on their mind. Usually VegasBob was there, the unofficial resident host, doling out mongering advice & recc's on chicas that were lurking around. Those were good times, I made some good friends, & indulged in my passions, girls & liquor.

I think a big reason it died out is that so many guys who used to stay @ the DR, Morazán or Prez started staying in Barrio Amon-The SL, the LA, the Castillo etc. Rather than hoofing it to the DR, guys started meeting @ the SL or HLH so the DR happy hr. fizzled out. Also, most of those old-timers have moved on to other spots or mongering retirement. I still go to the DR quite often, usually early afternoon or later at night when I'm on the hunt.

All valid points - these are some of the "reasons" its different now Yat - nothing to do with - nor any shot - at you.

I think the point the poster was seeking to make is that things are different, things have changed - not so much you per say - and you know what - he's correct. The same guys going 10 years ago are not the same as today - I'm not really "nostalgic" for the board of 10 yeas ago - while not a member, I did read it - but todays guy is different - not "worse" just different - there was more comradery - at least by/with some than there seems to be today.

Life moves, things change, guys pass, other places are sought and found (years ago you never heard Colombia ever mentioned - you had to be crazy to go there - you'd get kidnapped or killed - now its a garden spot) what was common and custom 10 years ago is no longer. Tell you what - next time you are in San Jose - post that you are hosting a happy hour @ the HDR and see what happens - maybe you will get a big turnout (I guarantee it if the first drink was on you given all the schnorres on this board.......)

You made it a somewhat more interesting thread, but it was just a random comment - and at the end, you got your explanation - which you actually had some posts back. And if you don't accept what someone has to say, or posts - your option and that's fine.

What I can share with you....the meeting place for gringos now tends to be at the tute table at the rey...as most days....early evening you will find standing room only around the table....not only a cheap game ( for those who dont really gamble) and its a slow , social game ,,,,, you can drink for free.....have a great seat to view the girls ....and chat it up with a table full of gringos
