Another July 4th….to celebrate, reflect or just ignore.

As I sit here this morning in my dilapidated trailer next to the city dump, I try and focus on what this day really means. I’m a bit groggy after an evening with Mr. Vodka and a few XX videos on the computer. The sun crept in exposing the dust on just about every piece of furniture I have…which is probably older that 95% of fellow members of this site.

I chugged down two large cups of coffee, had a large bowl of Special K cereal, not to associate that with a one time poster on this venue. Took my pills and had a piss to extract some of the poisons from my old body.

It was only a week ago that I had planned to visit SJ again on this weekend. After checking the airfares I realized the cost was too high. I checked on other trips and the same applied. Shit…..I’m going to a slave in the pits of Jax again.

About mid morning I began to remind myself of this significance date in our history. A couple of vodka sunrises sharpened my memory. July 4th has a good ring to it. In fact, independence was formally declared on July 2, 1776, a date that John Adams believed would be “the most memorable epocha in the history of America.” On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the final text of the Declaration. It wasn't signed until August 2, 1776.

There is another July 4th that followed 50 years later that few citizens are aware of. July 4, 1826. Both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died with 5 hours of each other on that date.

Damn, I’m in need of breakfast. I head down to a local eatery and paste my lard ass on a counter chair. On my left were two gringas, probably late 20’s yapping about shopping. Well…here goes old Circus. I asked the girls what they thought this holiday was about. “Party time, the beach and shopping,” they giggled. I asked them if they knew any of the names that signed the Declaration of Independence. It was like two doe deers in the headlights. One girl added….”Naw, all of them are probably dead anyway.” I actually spit part of my mouth full of coffee out.

I think I grossed out the young girls and the couple next to me. They sprang up, the two girls leaving no tip, and went to pay their check. I noticed all of them glancing at me and talking as they went out the door. Another day in the life of old Circus.

I left the restaurant and returned home. Just me and my cat, Shitass. Let her out to chase squirrels and then grabbed a book that put me back into what this day reflects to our nation’s history.

Valley Forge: George Washington and the Crucible of Victory

"Our studies in school (at least several decades ago) taught us that what has become the United States of America rode on the backs of these brave revolutionary men who were starving, barely clothed and stretched beyond the capacity of the human body and mind and the women who supported them. However, this book takes us inside the war with such detail, to where we seemingly live and breathe with those who fought it, to where we understand in such intimate detail and depth their thoughts and fears, and to where we are so engrossed in a book as to live through it with them."

If you are in for a good read and want to appreciate just how this country was born….I suggest you read this. Beats the hell out of party time, the beach and shopping.

Damn if I'm going to repeat this shit again. I need a drink.
I've been drinking vodka every day for 45 years and I have certainly never found it to be habit forming.
