Miamiheller, I think you're correct with S3 models and prior. I just took my S4 to CR this week... Didn't do a thing except for swap out SIM cards and turn it back on... Everything worked great except for the annoying alert that said the card was not an authorized Verizon SIM card.

I have a Galaxy S4 as well, from Tmobile.

It's carrier locked and it would not work with a Kolbi chip when I took it to CR back in May - only via Wifi (which is extremely convenient as the phone supports native Wifi calling on the Tmobile network).

In any case it wasn't a biggie given I always travel with an old unlocked HTC Radar 4G I use as my carry phone in CR, as I wouldn't dream of walking around San Jose with a S4 in my hand.

Thanks guys. I looked up my Alcatel, and it is quad band. I'm taking it along anyways... so I'll try a SIM and see if the phone accepts it.

If its quad-band AND UNLOCKED, it will work on any GSM system in the world.
