While flying back to the US a few days ago, a woman next to me had a copy of the Nacion, with an article in it about a proposal to eliminate the marriage for residency option.

I didn't get to read the story.

Did anyone see this, and know what the current situation is?
Thanks,
Rolex.

You are scaring me man!
Can a bunch of us come over and bond, until this urge goes away?

I am aware of no change in the rules. My friends in the state dept know my interests, and probably would have said something.

I will ask.

No, I think you misunderstood my post. I meant marriage for Costa Rican residency. So you can live in CR and not have to leave every 3 months.

Tex,
I wouldn't sweat it. There are much easier, not to mention sane, ways for a Gringo to gain residency status. When it comes to marriage vs dating it is often much cheaper in the long run to rent rather than to own.

Would you care to elaborate?

The next closest I've been able to find is to invest $50k in a tourism related business.
