Woman Arrested For Not Paying Ch*ld Support
In an unusual twist of events, a woman identified only by her first name, Zahira, decided to turn to police when her "better half" assaulted her with a machete to the head. She arrived at the Commandanica de Heredia - the Heredia police station - to file charges against the man and she herself was detained.
Police, in reviewing the woman's identity found an "order to captura" - a detention order - against the woman for not paying her ex-husband "Pensión Alimenticia" or Ch*ld support. She was promptly detained and held at the police station.
It appears the woman owes her husband some ¢146.000 colones (us$310) in Ch*ld support for the last three months, to which her ex filed an order against her in court.
The woman who has been living with an Nicaraguan man, who is an illegal alien in Costa Rica, had first gone to the San Vicente de Paúl hospital in Heredia to treat the wound her man had inflicted on her and then decided to make a visit to the police to file charges against him.
The surprise was on the members of the Fuerza Publica (police) to find themselves with a case where a woman owed support to a man, when the norm is the other way around.
The end result. Both the woman and her sentimental partner were detained by police and kept in separate cells - to avoid any further problems - overnight and will be handed over to the Minsterio Público and the courts to resolve the matter.
The woman's Ch*ldren live with the ex-husband.
