A year or two ago they took my NEW razors out of my shaving kit. Not the old one on the handle just the new ones. I jokingly told the dude I was gonna give the pilot razor burn and dry shave him if they didnt give them back. He had no idea what I was talking about

So I asked why they were not allowed and he said becuaes they are sharp. There was just no foolin this guy. I then said what about the knife and fork they are gonna give me 30 minutes into the flight? Will they be sharp? He said NO.... I walked away.

On one trip they confiscated fishing line and hooks when I was leaving CR. I even had to take the line off my fishing reels. I guess they thought I was going to hang the pilot to the cockpit ceiling using line and hooks. He would have to be real patient.

I am confused. You are hanging your clothes in your carry on?

Sea - some carry-on bags actually use hangers and then one simply folds up the clothes and they stay reasonablly wrinkle free. I also had my hangers taken on one trip out of SJO.

On my last trip earlier this month out of SJO I had the computer security cable taken by CR TSA - the one many use to secure a computer to a fixed object. That was a first.

Hope this is helpful to others and prevents others from having to purchase another security cable (more expensive than hangers).

Cheers -

Woozo

So I guess it has gotten to the point they can just randomly take anything they don't like. I somewhat understand having a list of things you can't take. But a security cable, sounds pretty arbitrary. The folks at the airport have enjoyed absolute power over the last ten years. Too much power for those with third grade educations.

One of the guys I travel with to CR has a hip replacement. In the US, he ALWAYS sets off the metal detector and is then subject to a secondary screening with the hand held wand.

At SJO, each time he has gone thru the metal detectors at the main security station, the metal detectors do NOT go off and he walks right thru.........but yet they are concerned about hangers, guitar wires, umbrellas and gold bond powder!!

about 2 years ago SJO security(?) took 3 butane lighters and 2 closed blade cigar cutters from my back pack/ computer bag, they were in the bag from DFW-MIA=SJO on the way down. Giess I was gonna put a pilots finger in the cutter and torture em.

I think it is funny you guys look for reason in the Security at the airport in CR. Everything else down here is bass-ackwards why would you expect anything different from the airport security?

Just to show how bad they are. I once,(without knowing)walked through security in Juan Santamaria airport with a clip full of 9mm hollow points in my computer bag.....
The night before I took everything out except the power cable. Well, when I pulled the power cable out once through security, a clip popped out.....Talk about luck.....or lack of detail in your work, I am not sure which one it is, but I am glad I got lucky like that. I promptly cleaned the clip and dropped it in a trash can before boarding my plane to Miami.

Now I know this was a HUGE mistake on my part, but my point with the story is, don't be suprised when security down here does stupid things like take your hangars. I mean it is not like they are trained well enough to know what the rules are or should be. Just my two cents.....

Dr. M.

I really don’t think any of us are looking for any rhyme nor reason in SJO security, or rhyme nor reason to most things here in CR. We are all just pointing out how bass ackwards it really is. At least I was attempting to say that. Most of these stories crack me up.

As with most things when traveling in CR you just have to get thru your day with a smile and a "don’t worry be happy" attitude. We are not there to find the source of enlightenment and all knowing knowledge.

I will never understand why they go thru all of this and then 20 minutes into the flight they had out 6 to 12 semi-sharp knives in first class? Do people who pay two to three times the coach fair or use miles to upgrade, just not have the ambition to take over a plane? I guess I would feel a little better if they at least ask that we sign an agreement that we won’t use the knives for anything other than cutting the over cooked piece of meat? Most people in first class can read….. I think??????

Sorry if you took what I was saying wrong...... I was just pointing out the lack of training and interest in their jobs....... I have learned to not take anything that goes on down here seriously.....Because if you do you will either go crazy or become one of those bitter old guys who hates everything here.... Like I said, Just my two cents......
