It's Official, The Dry Season Is Here!

It's official, the summer or "dry" season is here as the rains have completely left the Central Valley and Guanacaste. But don't take our word for it, "the transition is complete for most of the country" according to the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IM) - the national weather service.

And if you cannot believe them, or take our word for it, just look at the facts: we got hit by a cold wave for a few days and that there has been no rain or the threat of rain for several day in a row, all signs that the transition is complete.

The areas still affected by the rainy season is the South Pacific whose transition will be complete in the coming days, not later than the middle of December.

In the northern zoneand the Caribbean region it will be weeks before the rains go away for good, only to return in six month's time.

Meteorologist José Joaquín Aguero says that, although the rains in the Central Valley and Guanacaste are gone, some cold weather and strong winds, with gusts up to 80 km/h, will be with us on and off for the coming weeks.

Traditionally, the first week or two of January in very cold in San José, as temperatures drop a several degrees, ushering in a few month of hot, sunny and rain free weather.

Not to put a damper on the good weather, the rainy season comes back by mid May.

[october i was there for 27 nights
25 days was no sun
and light rain; only 2 days was some heavy rain
but around sept i needed water proof shoes :) as was heavier

looking hopeful to some rain free days i need a costa rica alternative in rainy season

might have to bite the longer trip and learning curve and go lima which is basically a year round drought :) but maybe not of fun

Lord, October I forget what the sun looks like. And in San Pedro, we got heavy rain more than twice, more like at least half a dozen times. I'm just glad it's over for now, November is so much nicer. September was bad too, but October was like the crescendo.
