I've long been interested in trying this as well. Maybe the fact that I haven't made the small effort it takes to turn my curiousity into action belies my own lack of culture. However I have to bust some of you guys in the balls a bit. How does going to see things like the Phantom, La Traviata or Botchelli in a classical european styled building qualify as experiencing some classic tico culture? Seems to me it is more like a place for Ticos to experience our own western culture. And how is taking a jaded Las Vegas dealer to the opera in CR going to succeed in impressing her if Wayne Newton or Danny Gans could not?

I know a spinner that will 'rest her head' on your lap during the concert.
That is art appreciation!

Every once in awhile we have a posting that is a little different and a welcome change.

Why is it necessary to denigrate into bar room humor :?:

A closed mind, why is that not surprising.

On my part, this will not become a flame war.

Those were great seat's vegas bob(7000 Colones)you got at half price,i took a working-girl to friday nite's show,(april 8th) and we sat in the front of the middle balcony upstair's,(GALERIA DERECHA) and those were 2500 colones,,tchaikovsky, strauss and elger performed to my sheer delight by the truly outstanding ORQUESTA SINFONICA NACIONAL.....Beautiful, elegant women, everywhere,in fact i was going to go back for the sunday(april10th)morning show, but had booked a"la paz/poas tour" for(Sunday a.m.)before going to friday's concert.......

The Obregon and Ulloh concert a few weeks ago was FANTASTIC! They are two of the world's most greatest musicians. (Piano and Guitar) In the US tickets would have been $50 and up. In SJ prices were $7-$20.

I can verify VB and Grillem's attendance at the concert as I saw them coming out of Teatro Nacional while I was sitting in the park looking for a little "brown sugar" to go with my cappucino.

BTW, the seats across from the theater and in front of Grand Costa Rican are a great place for meeting non pro GFE's. Some of the BM talent hang out there looking for "day work" too.
