Also found it on Google from American newspaper that it was at Playa Avellanas, a town about 10 kilometers south of Tamarindo.

AM Costa Rica had a lot of the details in a related story that appeared this morning.

They really need to get more signs out there on the dangers of swimming on beaches in CR. It's sad and happens way more than we hear about. It does show the strength of what a mother will do to save their K*D!

70 to 100 deaths a year in CR. I got caught in a rip tide in Manuel Antonio but fortunately I was not out that deep and I knew to swim laterally. What a weird feeling, very powerful. Alot of times they'll have lifeguards there in front of Mar y Sambra. Those guys are really good at spotting rips and will get out there and start whistling and getting people in.

Just found something I was unaware of when posting a link to a story in AM Costa Rica. When I posted the link yesterday it took you to the story about drownings in Costa Rica. When you click the link today it takes you to todays newspaper where the article is completely different so anyone reading the post and clicking on the link after the first day will be saying WTF?
