STOUGHTON, Mass. (FOX25, myfoxboston) - A 67-year-old Masscahusetts man was killed in Costa Rica.

John Joseph Scibeck died while staying at a little villa in Playa Potrero, where he planned on spending the winter months, The Boston Globe reported.

The retired car salesman told his son he should not expect to talk to him again until March. His son, Jonathan Scibeck, told the newspaper the last time he saw his dad was on Dec. 27, when he dropped him off at a hotel near Logan International Airport.

But on New Year's Day, Scibeck learned that his father was dead. A neighbor and friend discovered his body, face up on the side of a desolate road, less than a mile from the beaches of Playa Potrero, a small resort town on the western side of the country. He had been asphyxiated, but it was not clear how.

Costa Rica police said they are investigating the death as a homicide.

The victim's sons are now planning his funeral.

I just wanted to let you all know that the Bostonian man that died in Costa Rica was my father-in-law. He was a retired car salesman. He has 2 son and at the time of his death he had agrandchild on the way that he did not even know about yet. My daughter will never have the chance to meet her grandfather that would have loved her so much. All I want is to know who did what they did to him and why.

Harleygirl429, my condolonces to you and your family during this time. I hope the people who did this are brought to justice.
