I posted this several months back, but it was lost when the board crashed and apparently I've lost the notes I made on the subject. So forgive me for posting it again.

Where can someone, who is not staying at a big hotel like the Pres, Amon Plaza, etc, find a place to make copies of our passport pages ? I'm informed that copy machines are relatively scarce in SJ and am interested in finding a place where I can make copies so I don't have to be carrying my passport around.

Appreciate any help you may have to offer.

Ye Old Man

hola, at the presdente at the front desk , they can make copies for you, probably at the tour desk also and you can pay your departure tax. at the del rey at the casino, where yo exchange money they can make copies. i am sure the amon , and most of the hotel can make copies for you. just be sure to make a copy of your passport before you leave. leave a copy with someone in the states. pura vida

If you come out of the Presidente on Ave.Central go to the left, across the first street and 2 doors down on right hand side there is a place that will make copies AND laminate them for a nominal charge. Upstairs so look up and you will see the sign.

Do not know who gave you that info but is inaccurate. Places to make copies are all over the place and the cost is about c6 per page. How places can pay for the machine, supplies and maintenance and charge 6 colones a page baffles me.

The one close to the Prez does a very quality job and also can do color copies.

Ding Dong, I happen to be to guy who made the quote you noted or something very similar. It certailty seemed that way to me to me after my first night in an Jose when I was mugged on the streets of San Jose and had my drivers license stolen along with a bit of money.Fortunately I wasn't carrying my passport on the advice of a tica freind. The bed and breakfast hotel where I was staying didn' t have one and had to go a few blocks searching based on thier directions to find a place.I stand by the fact they aren't plentiful but there certailnly are places. It is far from like very business has a copy machine and copies have been just recently considered authentic to carry for identification. It is like there is a thing that a copy is not considered authentic and you see carbon being used for many things.Just my obervations in my short time visiting the last year.rbc100

I don't think there are a lot of copy places along the pedestrian mall or near 'the gulch' other than in hotels. However, once you get away from the higher rent districts there are little copy joints all over the damned place, and cheap. My observation

That is a whole different subject. Copy machines did not replace carbon paper in the US, NCR paper did. NCR paper does not seem to be available in CR so they use carbon paper.

Perhaps copy places are less usual in the gulch (although I know of at least 6) but as Bilko points out they are all over other areas of San Jose.

For guys in the gulch who need copy service see the post by Koppite

There copies are first rate at a very low price.
