Thanks for the article. That area was flat creepy to even drive through and I in my ignorance, once walked through it (in daylight--but still...). Sr. Vargas Loria did everybody a serious mitzvah by knocking it all down. Wonder if or how much he was pressured, and what assistance he'll get in rehabbing the area? A new Chinatown extension maybe?
