I read back in Dec that you could not bring in ground/bean coffee in your carry-on baggage that was purchased from outside the Airport (like Coffee from the Mercado). Is this restriction still in effect? Coffee purchased inside the airport was ok in carry-on.

I brought back a pound I bought at a coffee plantation in Jan.
It was in my carry on and they checked it, so I would be surprised if it is unlawful.
If it is I got away with it with no questions asked.

I buy coffee from Cafe Volio every trip, several pounds worth. I pack in my checked bags and declare it and never have been questioned nor had any problems.

Thanks to that asshole bomber on the flight to Detroit Christmas day GROUND coffee not purchased in the secure zone of the airport is not allowed in hand luggage but is permitted in checked baggage. Whole bean coffee is allowed. Ground/whole bean coffee in checked baggage is not restricted.

The problem with whole bean coffee in your hand carried baggage is you are hoping the rent a cop at the gate understands that whole bean..OK...ground... no way.

An observation: Any time you depend on some minor govt. flunky or rent-a-whatever anywhere understanding anything much less a change to THE RULES, it's BOHICA time. It's so much easier for them to say "NO!" and make you jump through hoops proving otherwise.

I carried a couple of 1/4 kilo Volio ground on my carryon and didn't have it confiscated.
