i don't understand the map....

is there not a prevailing wind from west to east in CR...?

the map seems to show a ash cloud projecting due west, more of less...

is that just the direction of the force which the volcano is directing its current eruptions?

it looks like there is the possibility that san jose proper could be affected by ash.

Volcan Turrialba is about 50 kms ENE of San Jose. It is part of the same group as volcan Iruzu and is located about 20 kms NE of Irazu.

At present the ash is only giving a light dusting to some areas of San Jose province such as Curridabat and Desamparados. I have not read of any effect in downtown San Jose and when I was there yesterday I did not see or feel any effects from ash.

yes, the map shows the ash only reaching the edges of san jose proper...

however, I am curious, is the direction of the ash is due to the direction the volcano is presently spewing or if it is affected by prevailing winds...

if the volcano were to have an even larger eruption, I suppose the ash coverage area would expand...

but why is it heading in a easterly direction?

is there not a prevailing wind from west to east in CR?

or is that only at higher elevations and does not affect light ash distrubution from the volcano at lower atmospheric levels?

Where I live, San Jose suburb, the prevailing wind is east to west.

The prevailing winds in CR are from East to West. They're called the trade winds (finally using my seventh grade Geography). :D :D

The other day, here on the Tibás/Moravia border, although there was no visible "cineza'', I found myself clearing my throat and wanting to rub my eyes every couple of minutes.

Dont worry about it in the least - no one else in San Jose is. Most experts seem to think it's nothing to worry about in terms of possible eruption.
