There has a lot of concern posted here worrying about Laura Chinchilla being elected and going after casinos and prostitution. However, as has been pointed out by some, there is no mention of cracking down on either so far in her campaign. That is not to say it is not part of her agenda.

Well do not think the other major candidate, Otton Solis, is going to be any better. He has commented on the issue. He is attributed with this quote in a recent Tico Times article "We don't want investment in casinos or prostitution. ... We will wage a battle on this."

I can only imagine a candidate coming out and saying 'We want to increase investment in Casinos and Prostitution.' That would go over worse than a fart in church.

No argument there. The posting was informational only. The points being made are that:

1. There have been posts made here that Laura was against both and people have answered that nowhere in her appearances or in her campaign literature has she stated that. Well here is a candidate who has stated that.

2. Posters have come to the conclusion that voting for Laura was against their interests because of her perceived stance. Well the opponent is no better choice based on his statement.

Frankly the whole issue should be a non issue because only citizens of Costa Rica will make the decision and I doubt that 1% of members of CRT meet that qualification. If you are concerned and not a citizen there is nothing you can legally do about it as CR law prohibits non citzens from getting involved.

Interesting ID to know that it is illegal to get involved even if not a citizen. I know a gringo who was doing some events for Johnny Araya (sp) before he was eliminated. Probably not making it obvious that he was the host of the events. Actually, I don't think Laura will do anything serious to upset the apple cart.

Interesting point by Brother Srilm. Politicians put up bills or vote for bills they know will fail, just to satisfy some constituency or another--"See I tried but the forces arrayed against us were too tough"--political cover, it's called . But as Brother ID says, we're kinda helpless on the sidelines here--can't do much about a developing situation either way...except not be "Exhibit A" for the prosecution. That old "I'm a good example of a bad example" thing.
