Your the only one to come closest to the answer. NASA says a solar flare will come within an estimated 2000 miles of earth, Its not the fire that will take us out, its the loss of power from the magnetic waves that will burn out most of the power transformers north of Florida and most of the nothern hemisphere. These transformers take years to build and cost into the tens of millions. Can you imagine the northern hemisphere without power for up to 2 years? I know where I'll be, In CR weeks before this hits. Then again, nothing happen when the calender reached 2000. Remember the fear then?

I like your answer JazzboCR. I'd be consuming '25-year old' Ron Zacapa Centenario XO (Guatemala) or '15 or 21-year old' Demerara El Dorado Special Reserve (Guyana) rum. I'd listen to the best of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Lastly, I'd be excited about seeing my parents again in Heaven.

Just posted on the Internet.... Looks like we have a chance after all...

MEXICO CITY – Apolinario Chile Pixtun is tired of being bombarded with frantic questions about the Mayan calendar supposedly "running out" on Dec. 21, 2012. After all, it's not the end of the world.

Or is it?

Definitely not, the Mayan Indian elder insists. "I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff."

Chile Pixtun, a Guatemalan, says the doomsday theories spring from Western, not Mayan ideas.

A significant time period for the Mayas does end on the date, and enthusiasts have found a series of astronomical alignments they say coincide in 2012, including one that happens roughly only once every 25,800 years.

and we all think that the putas would chose to be with us at "work" rather than be with their 2-7 K*ds and their boyfriends??
why do we take very little from forgotten cultures except thier doomsday projections?
dumbasses around the world will spend money doing stupid things like hording water and building bomb shelters rather than doing something nice for themselves.. like a threesome or foursome...all girl foursome except me.

Brothers LionKing and GringoTim--Glad to put my demented mind and fevered imagination in service to you. I don't plan to take this particular Doomsday scenario too seriously though--it's always what you don't forsee and thus can't plan for that bites you. This isn't particularly wise of me to say--I've just been paying attention these last 2 years.

At the end of 2012 I believe that we will all find out that we must continue our miserable lives until we are released by age, disease or accident. We will be in debt, and mostly emotionally unsatisfied except for the prospect of a mongering trip in January 2013. Of course, if I'm wrong, I can cut out the friggin' yard work and stop paying my dang bills on time

No matter what happens it will be a sight to see. All our planets will be aligned perfectly sometime after Thanksgiving in 2012. This only happens once in about 25,000 years. A meteor shower will follow or was that a sun flare. Either way, we will get a good view of the horizons. And I thought an eclipse was a big happening.

Tstef gets it. Of course, one can't live completely as if there will be no days to follow. But its also about finding some balance. TS Eliot once wrote "where is the life we have lost in living?"

If you're really so miserable at work, but are just doing it to pay for the things you THINK you need to survive or to save for some time in the future that may never come, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your life plan. Maybe you really don't need all those material things that you think you need. Maybe you could be doing something else that you enjoy more or provides you greater fulfillment, even if it doesn't pay quite as much, and just live a simpler lifestyle. Maybe you should take at least some of that money you are saving for retirement and use it to do some of the things you want to do in life while you're still young enough to do it. Isn't that what most of us are already doing when we take these expensive trips to CR?

Henry David Thoreau wrote "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." If you find yourself doing something on your last day that you should have been doing all along (or done long ago), then you have waited too long and have already really missed out.

It would be great to spend one's final day with one's loved ones, but think how regretful we would be if we came to our final day and had not ALREADY spent so many days with our loved ones truly cherishing them and letting them know how much they mean to us. Can just one day ever make up for a lifetime of neglect or taking them for granted?

And what about spending one's final day with one's favorite working girl? That sure sounds good. Either that or feeding some other hedonistic impulse. After all at that point money would be meaningless, so you might as well spend everything you have or even write rubber checks as Scuba suggested. Right? OTOH, if everyone else knew the world was ending too then money would be pretty meaningless to them as well. What makes you think your favorita would want to spend HER last day with a john like you, even a nice one who had bought her nice things in the past? I'm guessing nearly all of these chicas would much rather be with THEIR families than with any of you guys. Sorry to burst your fantasies there.

Of course, if one were to spend the day with one's favorita then Dean's little wrinkle of finally being able to go bareback with her without any fear of catching a disease given to her by one of her many other novios or of her getting knocked up and cornering you into marriage or Ch*ld support, all sounds very good and would set that day apart from the many other days one had already spent with her.

Couldn't have written it better. The irony of the 2012 scenario is that it is not just the Mayan Calendar that ends. A computer program was run to predict the end of the world (don't ask me what criteria were used in determining the results) and it ended 12/21/2012. The I Ching, etc.. Check out Zeitgeist the movie. You can watch it on Youtube. Interesting stuff.

Allow me to donate a few lines here. I am a numismatist...a coin dealer. These days there's more bullion action than collectible coins and that's largely due to the unease about the worlds economy...many people think the world is going to end. I call them Chicken Littles but I still take their money and sell them Krugerrands, Maple Leafs etc.
There have been several times in our lifetime (and many more before us) when people thought the world would end.
1. In the mid 60's when our circulating coinage was no longer struck in silver, everyone said That's it our money has no intrinsic value so surely anarchy will soon follow.
2. In the 70's during the bicentennial a common belief was that since the Roman civilization only lasted 200 years certainly our days were numbered as well.
3. In the 80's there was double digit inflation and again people were preaching doom and gloom, collapse of the dollar, etc.
4. In the 90's the Aztec calender ended as people all over the world meditated at sunrise, then into the day, then the night and the next day...the world kept going.
5. Also in the 90's was the Gulf War, thought by many to be the beginning of the end.
6. Let's not forget y2k. Where are the falling airplanes? What am I to do with all the canned food and shotguns I bought in preparation?

There are countless other incidents in history when people predicted the end of the world, the 2nd coming of Christ, armegeddon...you name it and there's been someone preaching it.

Yet, we are still here, through all the doomsday talk and all the conspiracy theories and all the fear mongering, life and our society has continued.
My belief is that Saturday, Dec 20 2012 will be the party of a lifetime, followed by the 21st, with hangovers for many, meditation for others, philosophizing for most everyone on some level or another, and that's all. Monday, Dec 22 2012 will be just another Monday, probably a disappointment to some, a relief to others but it will be just another day. I expect that during the first part of 2013 I'll be buying back lots of gold and silver that I sold to the doomsdayers and the Chicken Littles, just like I have every time people realize the sky isn't falling. And that's fine. I don't promote fearful theories of the end of time but when people ring my doorbell looking to ring my cash register I am not going to turn them away or try to convince them that they're wrong. I will make the sale.

Now...so that my post isn't completely off topic. I want to spend that night with good friends and family, celebrating the life we have and the memories we've made together. In fact, typing these thoughts has made me want to have a party that night. Anyone want to come to my house in the Orlando area for a holiday party? :>)

I'd love to come bro. I think it will be just another day myself. Not to get off topic but I believe only our Maker knows the exact time and date of our demise. Astrologically speaking however, isn't that day the beginning of a new age? The age of Aquarius? The even that happens astrologically every 25,000 or so years. But, I'm all in for the party.
