The TSA loves to take people with lots of cash into a room and interrogate them. "Where did you get that money? You're a drug dealer." I wonder what their cash threshold is for this kind of thing?

I think that just under $10,000 is the LEGAL amount you can carry without proper documentation.....however, the HASSLE-FREE amount could be much less. A good excuse to use, is that you are looking to buy a retirement or vacation house in CR, and have brought cash for a deposit.

If you have less than 10 grand there is not a damn thing they can legallly do about it. They can detain you for a short while but then you will be let go. Phuck em.

what if you took out of usa 10 gold bars worth $9000, do you think that would confuse them and cost you a delay?

Max without declaring is $10K USD in efectivo.

Open a bank account with HSBC or Scotia Bank and wire transfer what you want. Anything over $5K will send up a red flag.

Now for added working cash flow bring CC's and work the ATM's up to about $200 USD per day per card.

If you need a really large amount, mirror Colonel Olie Norte's model from the '80's and...

You should be good to go.

No confusion at all.
Definitely Lose your gold and maybe go to jail if you cross the $10,000 threshold.
Other than that they will just look at you real hard.

FYI:
1. There is no limit on the amount of money that can be taken out of or brought into the United States. However, if a person or persons traveling together and filing a joint declaration (CBP Form 6059-B) have $10,000 or more in currency or negotiable monetary instruments (like gold coins), they must fill out a "Report of International Transportation of Currency and Monetary Instruments"

You cannot successfully rationalize that gold bars are exempt.
It has been tried.

Just do a gun deal with Israel and Iran?
I think the State Department would take umbrage.

what i meant was if declared and not trying to hide anything, would the custom agents give me a hard time through stupidity or just lack of understanding and wanting to "clear up" things??

If you declare it on the right form it is a non-issue.

Ah, the Veyron...$1.5 mil ($1.8 for the new convertible)...what a deal...only 200 made per year, top speed of 253 mph, 0 to 60 in 2.5
secs, 1001 hp...can't wait for mine to arrive. I used to do 150 mph in my '96 'Vette
convertible, and I thought that was fast. 253...Holy Sh*t!
