Claim it was a spoof eMail, not really from you.
Good ol "X" was trying to get you into trouble.
The proof is you did not open it.

Bro K, to add to what JazzbroCR said, if you work for a public agency, they most likely have an email retention policy in force. This will mean that even if you delete an email, it is still retained on the server and can be retrieved in response to a public records request or an internal audit. ....

K:

And I hope you deleted using Shift-Delete - which permanently deletes it. (Unless they have a retention policy in force.)

If you did not do this, go into your Deleted folder and delete all the ones there using the technique above. That way they do not get saved to a back-up. (Unless they have a retention policy in force.)

Suerte!

To add a experience to what Boyton said-- I work for gov. and for the first 5-6 years we had email, things were pretty loose. I got tons of the less then clean stuff from inside my Dept. and from out side, I looked-- BUT never once sent forwarded or kept in any folder. The guy in the office next to me, like to send them to his wife’s outside employer ( her boss) and others in the Dept.. Well One day despite being addressed to that address the mail went to a lady in anther dept of our Gov. She filed a complaint and he was taken to the cleaners ( did not lose job but a inch away) and then they hauled every one else in for a lecture and warning about email. Except me, Because I never sent, I had no control over what is sent to me, no matter who its from. so its what I did with this after that they judged, and never keeping or mailing I was off the hook . No warning, no lecture nothing—They got some filters about 9 months later .
To this day for some reason a couple of now banned web address ( guns stuff) still send me emails at my office from time to time that get by the filters. Delete button – and I am off the hook.

I have a friend who also had a similar experience- received but never sent from office computer, every one else in his office got S*** canned, he just got laid off with UC pay . Business was closing and they were looking for ways to save money by firing people over thingss they did not care abut yesterday.

Don’t worry about this if they fire you over what got sent to you, they wanted your ass for some other reason – Like maybe for not taking them with you to CR.

and when my buddy got his lecture, they had every email for 5-6 years he had sent to any one, no matter how large, small or STUPID-- boss got to read a lot of emails that where never meant for his eyes from people n his unit to others in his unit - he was not happy about those

Dude, you should be fine. Just say you didn't know who sent it, that was why you deleted it. No harm no foul. Good luck.

Xman00, The personal ID also contains my first and last name. Not only that I have used that same personal ID in the past to email information to my work email ID. Also I have sent information to the same ID from my work email. I could deny saying it doesn't belong to me but they could easily find out that both belongs to me.

But....after reading some of the posts here I am almost ready to say Phuck IT. Whatever happens happens. I want to thank JazzboCR and Santas Bro for their great PM'S. They were really huge confidence boosters. Thank you everyone for taking a few minutes to post your thoughts here. I really appreciate this. No one will understand any of these except the monger brothers.
