During my last trip to CR my laptop would not let me enter CRT successfully. I could log in but going anywhere would give an error message and a return to my desktop.
I tried ststem restore a dozen times but each attempt seemed ok but after going thru the process I would get the message that it could not be restored to an earlier date.
I ran ad-aware and spybot. I tried other downloads but I can't download without getting the error message and a return to my desktop.
I cleared out 35 gigs of photos and vids to no avail. Firewall seems ok.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can try to do all the trouble shooting you want but the best and in my opinion the fastest fix would be to re-format the computer. I say that because some of the simple fixes that you tried didn’t work and if there are any shared files missing your computer won’t run right. You could also try going to Symantec’s web site and running an antivirus scan to see if you have any viruses. In any event I would start backing up your important stuff now so you don’t lose anything. It’s also important to know what type of “error” message your getting. When you get the error message write down what it says and try Goggling it to see what that says could possibly be the problamo.

Have you tried using HijackThis?

Free download at http://www.hijackthis.de/downloads/HJTInstall.exe

Be advised: This powerful tool is NOT for the lackluster. You need to know what you're doing. This program will find hostile Active X matters on your machine as based on the sparse data you've supplied, it seems that you've got something nasty on it.

If you ARE able to download HijackThis....you can analyze the log file at
http://www.hijackthis.de

the above web site will analyze the log and let you know what Active X controls on the machine will be nasty. You cannot miss the big ass Red X which means "BAD MOJO".

Scuba:

If you have not already done it, dump all cookies and flush the cache. If no improvement re-install the browser. If you only have one browser e.g. Microshit Internet Explorer also install Firefox and see if that works. At all times ensure your Anti-Virus is live and running. Do not install anything new without doing a full AV scan first.

There is nothing wrong with your machine's specification. All the "professionals" I know upgrade from Vista to XP. :)

Suerte!
