Ok here is the deal...my boss was nice enough to give me 4 days off in a row towards the end of april....I have a wingman going to sousa for 7 days around the same time. What to do ....flights from tampa to POP were running about $480 and it had some bad flight times getting in late , leaving early (making the trip about only 2.5 days of fun) since there is really only one flight out of miami to POP ...sure I tried everything going out of orlando , driving to miami all the flights were running near the 500 mark and for a 4 day thing just didnt make a good value trip.

So I call my wingman and tell him, sosua is a no go for me (he is pissed but understands the price and time thing) i had been looking at san jose flight from tampa, orlando and miami ....tampa around 280 , orlando about the same miami 205 ...miami drive sucks to save a few bucks but since this a short trip miami was out of the question....

This am I get on line and its time to buy.....I pull up the site and everything is 380 with bad times (long layovers or late flights) I am really thinking 'just screw it" ...I do all my tricks , looking at every site ...putting in different times checking for a day early ....all over about $100(from the first price I seen 2 days before) then out of nowhere when I go back to try a different time ....bamb ...280 with great time ..'ONLY ONE SEAT LEFT AT THIS TIME" it was like someone had been watching me ...saying if we dont give this guy a out he going to say screw it !!! I know its not that way ...but it seemed like it was a set up ....

What airline and out of what airport? Do you ever drive from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale for the Spirit flight or is the drive too long?

According to 1 Website I checked it's 234 miles from Tampa to Ft, Lauderdale--don't know what the roads are like but figure 3-4 hours driving.

It is not the worst drive in the world. 4 hours or so, all Interstate driving. Just depends on time of day. Naples is BRUTAL early morning and late afternoon with heavy construction on I-75. But Alligator Alley is a speedway. Pop onto 595 and straight to FLL.

All that said, 4 hours of driving certainly has a price tag for me! $100 each way AT LEAST.

Forget going thru Naples, the construction between Northport and Naples will set you back 2 hours during the day. Aligator alley is full of FHP's so there goes the 90-100 mph run to FLL. I take 75 south to SR70 then strait across to 710 then southeast to I95 in West Palm. 3 hours no problem. Count on the extra hour from WPB to FLL. if not in rush hour traffic. I95 is still a bitch in Palm Beach. Early morning drive is best, 4 A.M. To me it's still better to fly out of TIA for the extra $100. Just think of the parking fee's at MIA. Sorry jazzboCR, I meant for this reply for Tstef527.

I often find a $75 to $100 dollar differance booking one ticket TPA to FLL.
Then FLL to SJO. Try it.

I just checked this a couple days ago (for a possible trip next weekend) and the price from MCO to SJO was $179 each way, PLUS TAXES. Two weeks ago, it was only $69 each way. :(

I often see that one too, I just don't like the 3+ hr. layover on the return leg.
