While I think costa rican beers are pretty good ,especially bavaria. The problem seems to be that lots of places turn their coolers off at night and the beer continually get warm then cold day after day. That is why the beer is rarely ice cold and people drink their beer with ice in a temperate climate, go figure. The funny thing is that it probably would be cheaper to leave the coolers on all the time because once all that mass is cold it takes very little energy to sustain it.

Somebody tell the bars (Blue Marlin, etc.) this!

zman, I agree dude, way too many hot beers in CR. I actually like the Imperial Light. And you know what, every time I drink it, I sure as hell am enjoying myself. If they had it at Publix, I'd buy some right now just to reminisce. I just wish some place there would serve it, not cold, but sub zero ice cold. OK, ID, I know sub zero would freeze it solid  !.

Anytime I am in another country, I always enjoy their beer, I guess it's something about experiencing the culture, OH, that's right, that's what their women are for, HAHAHAHA    !

PUTA VIDA, guys!

whoops, I mean

PURA VIDA!

There was a microbrewery near Elite for a while but I think they have closed. i tried going there several times and they were only open once. We were the only customers. not a huge surprise they went under.

The AutoMercado in Moravia has significantly expanded their selection of quality beers. I bought a couple of six-packs of Scrimshaw & Sam Adams this morning. They had three or four selections from North Coast Brewery and about a half dozen European brands. Also had Bud and Miller. The prices were obviously higher than in the U.S., but not too ridiculous. My selections were about $11/six-pack.

I'm sure they must have the same or better selections in Escazu, but not so sure about downtown.

I have found MANY belgian beers in the Mas x Menos in Desamparados, close to parque la paz.

This includes, but not limited to:
Leffe
Duvel
Chimay
Maredsous
St. Bernardus

I find it very hard to find my favourites though:
Westmalle
Gulden Draak
Delirium

There's nobody that makes better beer than Belgium... There's no point in drinking American Swill (I mean *cough* beer)

Germany makes some OK drinks that sort of pass for beer.

England makes a few decent stouts.

Netherlands makes a couple decent beers.

Ireland makes 2 good beverages... not sure their beer though... guiness and I think it's called Murphy's.

Imperial is an OK hot weather lager... and if I'm drinking one, it means I'm in CR, so I don't complain.
