A couple short stories for y'all.

Returning from my Memorial Day '07 trip, I encountered two guys waiting in the boarding lounge. They were talking at typical gringo volume, reliving every stroke, prices paid, best providers. I could feel the baleful stares around me. Idiots.

Another trip, I was walking down the aisle after using the lavatory. Two guys apparently recognized me from the SL, and loudly called, "Hey! SL!"

On a trip to C.R., I was seated next to a gringa who teaches in the C.R. prison system. We talked about the penal system, how many gringas are doing time in that system, and for what crimes. After a few moments of chat, with no hint being given by me as to my main purpose for traveling to C.R., she said: "And it looks like you're one of those so-called 'single gentleman travelers' that are causing so many social problems in C.R." Uh, I'm part of the problems of poverty, lack of education, lack of opportunity for single mothers, lack of a social safety net? Okay, me... I'm the criminal here. I didn't retort, because doing so would have proven her point, that I was indeed a whoremonger.

Guys, there's no easy way to say this so I'll be blunt. We are presumed to be whoremongers automatically, if we travel alone or in small, all-male groups (i.e. without a woman/k*ds by our side).

Even if one was going to C.R. for completely innocent (in quotation marks) reasons, the vast majority of people we encounter on our journeys will presume we're mongers.

And that's why I've deceded to dress as a Catholic priest on future trips, Bible in hand, Roman collar and crucifix. Oh wait, bad idea...the locals would then presume I'm there to f*ck little boys.

If you really want to be involved in a charity in CR, there are opportunities to do that.I am working on trying to open a free english language school in San Jose.Primarily meant to help people who give up on career advancing education due to a lack of money. Will also provide Ch*ld care during classes so it can be convenient for single moms.Hoping to offer computer skills classes as well as maybe Chinese classes.
If any of you guys have grant writing experience, pm me.

Come on man. I`ve always enjoyed reading your posts, but do you really think anyone is going to work days in a San Jose soup kitchen just so they can build an alibi to cover for their mongering?
Yeah, I know. But I've seen a lot of crazier things in my time. Obviously, it would help tremendously if you also got some sort of psychic satisfaction merely from the act of doing good. And its not like everybody can be mongering 24hours a day anyway. There are plenty of guys who have gone to CR and spend 3-4hrs/day 5days/wk taking spanish language lessons. Going for spanish immersion is also a pretty good excuse for repeat CR visits that also has the advantage of providing you with a useful skill for your mongering. Volunteering won't do that but it does give you something that is much less assailable by your family minister.

However, there are other serious limitations with this strategy beyond the number of hours involved. Most volunteer programs are well outside of the city of San Jose. Most require a MINIMUM of a 2 week commitment if not much more. Some require various types of experience (e.g. medical, teaching, etc.) or spanish speaking ability and those that don't are more likely to include some sort of training period which extends the commitment duration. There is nice non-controversial conservation work available in rural areas but one of the more common SJ volunteer areas is work with orphans, which could be a really controversial area for a monger to get involved in. You actually have to pay for some "volunteer" programs or they may involve homestays or other factors that could interfere with your "after-work" activities.

I never thought volunteering would be a viable idea for most mongers, or even any, but I did think it was an interesting concept given that the guy who was ratting out all us single guys who travel to CR regularly as mongers was either a monger himself or a single guy who travels to CR regularly himself to volunteer "doing the lord's work"

Good one, El C.

I'll add a little bit more. I'm not going to pretend that the strong presumption of guilt is not there. Because it usually probably is. If you'd prefer it, then call this a situation of "don't ask, don't tell" or "semi-plausible deniability". They may be pretty sure what you're really doing in CR, but without the smoking gun there is nothing that they could really convict you on. Fess up and even the fig leaves drop away.

A gringa like El C described who visits CR regularly and participates in their social service system, probably as part of some liberal or religious based group, is obviously going to be MUCH more aware of our side of CR tourism (and have strong feelings about it) then some gringa just visiting for a week and spending all her time on nature hikes and zipline rides with her family in Monteverde. And the gringas back home in the US, who have never been to CR or seen the monger idiots like El C described on the plane know even less.

Of course, those obnoxious oblivious monger idiots do nothing to limit the awareness of our activities from spreading. This gets back to what I was saying in a thread a while back about "taking your ho to breakfast". They may already know about what goes on (hell, they DO know) but that doesn't mean we should do it "in their face" or careless and thoughtless flaunt what we are up to. This hobby already gets enough negative attention as it is, without any of us adding to it. This also applies to the other thread that is going about telling people back home about what we do in CR. Some may think that "gee, its not like I have a wife or anyone else that I care what they think" but contributing to the awareness of sex-tourism still provides the fuel the feeds the fire of the campaign against it and that effects all of us, married or not. Worse thinking that specifically telling gringas about what we can get in CR (basically rubbing it in their face) may provide some sort of visceral satisfaction but it is doubtful that it will get any of them to reform. it is much more likely to convince them that there is something going on in CR that something needs to be done about.

went out of his way to convince her was I was there only for
the putas, no matter what I told my ladyfriend. He had to explain the
entire scene to her in detail, all the way back to the States. So she came
back and told my ladyfriend that she has to stop seeing me. Health panic,
infidelity insecurities -- the whole mess.

Why do some guys have to mess up the lives of others? Didn't he realize
that this would mess up a fellow's life?

What I want to know is how this guy brought this up with this gringa?

"Hey, your friend's boyfriend is most likely laying pipe with P4P chicas while he's in CR"

Dumbass. Some people have no inner editor. Sorry your life got phucked up, Rio m...

Any scum ball who busts another man on infidelity is the lowest scum. Any form of revenge on your part is justified.
