I've received a few "blank*" emails recently with the "How are you" subject line (* the 120kb message size suggests to me that there was something more to it then just a blank message). I've just deleted them w/o opening, like I do with any obvious crap, but they did raise my curiousity. I don't get much junkmail in my Prolijo email box, which I use only for CR related stuff, so I was curious how I got on their list. The from lines were gmail addresses and not anyone who looked familiar, but one of the first things I did was to check if someone used the same handle on CRT (not in any of the cases). I suppose it is possible that some member culled the CRT membership list for email addresses they could spam from some gmail account that they had set up but it is just as possible if not much more so that we're both getting these for some other common reason related to CR.
Incidently, I also received a mysterious blank message entitled "Lets be friends" from a
jrtb_1999@racsa.co.cr (ie definitely CR related). I googled that address and came up with a James Brohl who is a gringo CPA/Tax advisor who advertises regularly with that email address in AMCostaRica. I somehow don't think he's looking for friends but rather that someone else has hijacked his email. He is not in my contact list and I can't imagine how I might be in his but maybe the reason you're getting what appear to be junkmails from prominent CRTers is because your email address was in their contact lists and this has nothing at all to do with the CRT website itself.
