MagicJack gives you a US phone number. When someone in the USA calls they get the same charges that they would have paid if they were calling any other number in the assigned area code whether the MagicJack is located in CR or the USA.

The reason it is "only free to call from MagicJack back to the USA" is because the MagicJack is a USA number. Making a local call to my friend across the street in CR would require me to dial his full number: 011-506-2524-XXXX, an International call. I would pay the MagicJack rate of $.06 per minute for that International call, across the street. Savvy?

Ok, thanks 55. That is as I thought it was. As long as you gave yourself a USA based phone area code and phone number, anyone can phone it, irrespective of where you are with the thing....and it rings just as if you were on it in the USA.

I was on the verge of purchasing MagicJack when it was cheaper (and how....it's still rock bottom, though) when the first set(s) of feedback on the board were indicating it wasn't quite up to snuff. I'll have to keep pondering if I really need a phone when I am in CR for calls back to the USA.
