Has anyone sent anything to someone in San Jose? What's the cheapest route of doing so and approximately what would it cost? Before the bashers come in, I'm looking to send a couple toys to mi amiga's Ch*ld.

Any info would be appreciated.

There are a couple companies that let you send stuff to their Miami offices and they get it to CR. I don't remember them offhand, so do a search for "shipping".

DON'T use UPS or FedEx, they charge A LOT.

My advise would be to give it to a friend you trust to bring down with him (assuming they are small gifts)

Just be careful he does not hit THAT !!

I sent a small package with a Birthday card to a chica, May of 2008. I have been to her home it is a valid address. I still see her when I visit C.R. as of Ocotber 2008 she has not received the small package. And probably never will. The gift was only worth about $40.00 but from what she told me the theft of mail etc. is common place.

I was checking Fedex, DHL and the quote was something like $150 for a 3lb box. Ridiculous!! I'll take your advice and do a search on shipping. Something I probably should have done previously. Damn noob. :P

That's discouraging Tjaco. I'm sure it's not uncommon at all.

I spent some "GOOOGLE" time for you and came up with this:

http://www.therealcostarica.com/living_ ... _mail.html

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will links to several services located here in the U.S.A.

http://www.aeropost.com/SJOE/home.htm is the first one

http://www.redboxmail.com/english.htm is another

Sorry....that's the best I could do for the moment. Hope it helps a bit. I am sure there are others

Thanks Steven, I appreciate it. Seems after doing a search here on CRT that shipping anything to CR is a major pain in the balls, whether it may or may not arrive, having to pay taxes on cheap items totaling more than the worth of the item, etc. We'll see what happens.

There are many services. I use Jetbox. There is also Aerocasilla, Aeropost and even a UPS Store.

The problem is - she needs a mailbox and an account. I would go the manual route.

Yes, all the courier services require that the person have a mailbox at their office, which costs money. Many costa ricans have such mailboxes, because they regularly order merchandise from the states. So check with the Chica and see if she has a US mail address.

She will still have to pay taxes on the worth of the item though.
