Just about everything of quality down here is 30 to 40 percent more than the US.

Never thought of this before, but this thread is the place to ask: Do they have or can you get 'Rat Bite' in CR? That is what they call the best of the best Blue Mountain coffee in Jamaica (or at least use to years ago).

Blue Mountain coffee is not widely distributed do the limited quantity available. To the best of my knowledge the only non Costa Rica coffee sold in the general market here is Juan Valdez from Colombia. That has been sold here for about two years in retaliation for Britt entering the Colombian market.

Actually, and I'm sorry because my first query was not that clear, I am not really referring to Blue Mountain. What I meant was is there a variety of coffee in CR that the producers refer to as 'Rat Bite'. The term comes from Banana Rats nibbling on the very best of the beans and those beans being collected for coffee production. In Jamaica back in the early 80's Rat Bite never seemed to get very far from the Blue Mountain area. I am not sure of the particulars on Rat Bite is it collected from the droppings of Banana Rats then roasted or not? I know that may gross some of you out but in Morocco the best cooking oil is the product of goat the seeds from the Argan tree that are collected from the droppings of goats that graze in the trees. Thankfully I only found that out after returning from there when I was telling a Morrocan friend about the great fried fish in Essaouri.
