What are the best locations to go to if your banks card does not work with ATM in the gulch? I spoke with my bank about it and they have no idea why this would be happening either. Anyone have this problem before and find the solution?

It happened to me about a month ago. Kept getting "system down" messages. Called my bank--no problems at their end. The next day it worked fine. Hope that's how it works out for you.

Coincidentally, that same day the Racsa servers went dead for a couple hours, so I assumed that the ATM machines may have required re-booting of some sort.

There's always the (more expensive) option of getting a cash advance on your credit card from whatever hotel you're staying at.

Costa Rica is still a developing country that has it's share of problems. One of them is a crashing of the ATM system for hours on end. Their is no predicting when or where it will happen, just be prepaired for it and draw enough money to compensate for the inconvenience.

Was gambling recently at the Horseshoe and ran out of Colones. Fed my card into the ATM machine by the cage and requested the maxium allowed there which is 100,000.00 colones. Machine spits out 60,000.00 colones and it says OUT OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF... Casino personal says there is nothing they can do about it but the machine knows how much it gave me and that my bank would only charge me for the mount dispensed.... YEA RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

I'm all set for for the aggravation, so I go to the Int Cafe pull up my online banking and sure enough my banking shows just the $60,000.00 withdrawn. I was quite shocked to tell you the truth, but made sure to tell the casino personal they were correct and I aplogised.

I now feel quite safe using their ATM....
