Bro if money wasn't a factor right now, I'd move to Costa Rica in a heartbeat. Currently I'm in Miami Beach, and I hate it. People are rude, obnoxiously "classy", good food is scarce and expensive, overcrowded, boring, no hills! (personal reason), no waves at the beach (BOO!), the beach not as exciting as Costa Rica beaches, it's just plain overrated in my view, it just looks nice. The club scene overcrowded and really dangerous but on the other hand I find it uninteresting. I also enjoy speaking Spanish more than English, so that's a minus of being here. Over here is the reverse of the metaphor of: "Don't judge the book by its cover." I saw the cover, opened the book up, and now I'm stuck reading it until who knows when.

My personal reasons on Costa Rica -

The good: I'm Tico myself (half Tico, half Chinese). I speak fluent Spanish and English. 2/3 of my family are down there, and I really like the feeling of them around. The food is better, feels and tastes more fresh and organic from the Mercado Central or even the Supermarket. Grandma cooks the best :) and so does everyone else in the family. As another person mentioned, Costa Rican's are friendly individuals and that's a big plus for me. The whole San Jose AVENIDA CENTRAL is basically 90% of the people's way. I like the idea because it's the center of everyone in San Jose, it's badass. Unlike here, everyone's center here are the freeways and traffic, how boring. Veggie stands on the corner are nice, and you help out the vender in need (most of them sell veggies straight from their farm/home to support their family). Just gotta watch out for the veggies with red flag like lettuce in which could contain bacteria. The climate, weather, and biome are excellent. I get a feeling of tranquility and peace when I'm over there (could be on my way (the drive is awesome) to Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Limon, Arenal. Being there chilling is double the tranquility). The women are hot, but nowadays even in Costa Rica it's hard to find one that is decent. I say, if you're able to live comfortably (mid-class/high-class) in Costa Rica, you're King of your own life, all you'd need is the woman, but that has an easy solution. To continue mongering (;)) or hunt for a potential girlfriend to live with. Ship over a nice vehicle 4x4, have the money, and you're set.

The bad: Crime rate is rising (muggers, grand theft auto, drugs), sucky police, the feeling of unsafe while walking around town, no street signs, bad drivers and conductivity on the road, the monopoly of companies such as GRUPO ICE (in which includes the RACSA CABLE INTERNET, ICE service provider for cell phones), the automobile insurance company called INS. Horrible, horrible companies that have no order, bad customer service and the service itself. CableTica is a cable TV company that is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. Less than 100 channels, haha they're stuck in the mid 90's. Well, I guess that's about it.

I could always fly back to Miami or L.A and take a vacation to enjoy its good. But what Costa Rica has to offer me makes me more happy.

In my opinion though, if you're obviously Gringo (white, forgien, not Hispanic) you'd tend to get treated like one, not necessary bad though so don't get me wrong. Ticos treat Ticos in a common manner. I get treated differently sometimes with people (strangers) who I interact with, never with my family though.

Pura Vida.

As a whole I really enjoy it down there but the almost lawlessness anarchy with rising tide of vioent crimes makes it kinda scary.

Even if crime improved I would never invest an significant amount of money down there (i.e compra una casa). Maybe a newer Tico house somewhere (muy Tico) and then only via loan.
