I've been asked a few times by the girls at the BM if I lived in CR or if I was just visiting and have wondered what difference it would make to them if I said I was living there.

If you live in CR, do you tell the girls you live there or do you just lie and say you're visiting from out of town? Do you get treated any differently if you live in CR versus if you are just visiting? Do the girls latch onto you more and try to let you get them pregnant?

How do you get treated (if at all) than if you are just visiting?

I don't live there, but I assume the question is a result of "gold digging." If they are going to dig for gold, they want to make sure there is more gold where that came from. If you live there, then you are more likely to see them again and again. I assume it could improve their attitude and service.

I don't live there and I don't lie. I do sometimes K*D around and say "Si, welcome to Mi Casa!" And I point up stairs. I then say, no I don't live here, but I do come back many times, and you should get to know me.

I have found it to be quite a regimented approach from all the pros. The questions are as follows: What is your name? Where are you from? Are you married ? What hotel are you staying at? How long are you staying. Is this a vacation or do you have a business here? It is usually just about in this order as well.

They want to know your name for obvious reasons. Where are you from is just a little small talk. Are you married?= A bit more small talk cuz she won't care. But depending on your answer, she may have different motives with you. Not sure about that one though as I am no longer con espousa. Still trying to figure that one out. Guys, help me on that one. What hotel?...she hopes you are at the DR. Going anywhere else is an inconvenience...seriously. Especially if you met her in the Blue Marlin. If you are staying at a hotel out of the gulch, the price goes up significantly. How long are you staying?=if I like this one I'm going to manipulate his time until he leaves. My hand will be in this gringos wallet and I'm not sharing with any other chicas . Vacation or business?=how often will I get to see him.
As for your question Romulus, if they ask if you live there or not=If he lives here he knows not to pay me cien. She knows that gringo knows the game and how to play it. He will be more difficult to negotiate with. These are my 2 colones worth. Guys, chime in here please.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot one other question early in the conversation: How many times in Costa Rica, papi? I think we all know why they ask this question.

When asked where am I staying and am I on vacation. My response is I will be here at the Del Rey for three weeks then a week at flamingo Beach and back to the Del Rey for an additional five weeks. Now you could call this lying but I prefer calling it enhancing my bargaining position. Why do this? She will look at you as a potential long-term customer and your treatment will reflect that. If she likes to travel she will be trying to show you how much fun she could be on a week at flamingo Beach. If she does not like to travel she will be looking at you as a potential repeat customer. She would think of you as someone with money that can afford a nine weeks vacation. She will show you a good time in the short ride for a reasonable amount of money looking for her payoff in the long run.

Do you really think the ONLY reason they ask if you live there is cuz you know not to pay cien? I would think there would be other reasons but I could be wrong.

I've had women I've been with come up to me REPEATEDLY in the BM after I was with them once and hang all over trying to get another time with me, and this is even after I only paid them $60 for an hour or two. Plus I wouldn't pay them up front either.

One thing I tell the girls when we're doing it is that I want to see them everyday even though I may never want to see them again after that night. That really enhances the experience because they now see you as a long term repeat customer.

When I see them again in the bar I just tell them I'm too tired to go again and they leave me alone. Some try to say "Ok how about Massage?" and I just reply "No Thanks" cuz I know that will lead to trouble in the room.

A lot of guys that live here, don't really frequent the DR except when we know a lot of you guys from gingoland are in town. That probably sounds a little snobby so let me expain:
Through living here, making friends and knowing the girls of gultch pretty well, we are forturnate enough to have made other, sometimes more permanate arangements with the them. We have phone numbers and we can and do talk to them (in spanish) through the slow times when you guys are not around so, because we are kind of "frequent flyers" if you will, we can and do get a better deal.
I tell them that I'm retired and living on a fixed budget and I just can't afford the going price and we usually work something out. Right now (and I'm not an exception here) I pay 5 different girls 20K colones and all I do is call and any one of them is at my door in less than an hour.
Not trying to be a wise guy or a bragger but once you've lived here a while, you kind of figuer it out just as they do.

Ding Dong and Steve: Those are great points. So you go to the Rey just to prospect....just like THEY do. And the chicas will call YOU, when they need a little extra dough because they know what they are getting, and they don't have to spend 5 or 6 hours sitting at the Del Rey, only to have one or two customers, whom they may not like in the first place.

Makes sense to me. While I don't live there, I have developed a nice little black book myself, and sometimes I will call a chica when I know I am coming down and ask her to meet me there when I arrive. I have a few chicas that are special to me, give great service....don't charge me that much....don't ask for money....are always there when they say they will be....and provide not just sex but a real fun experience. It beats the hit or miss of the Del Rey.

But then again...you can't keep me out of the Blue Marlin, where I constantly am hoping the new semi-pro will wander in and knock my socks off.

These are good replies. Much different than I had expected. However, I still want to know if they try to latch onto you and are more possessive once you live there or if they intentionally try to get pregnant (meaning they let you do them without a condom). Now I know right now the big head is thinking so I know the vast majority of replies are going to be "I ALWAYS use a condom!" but in the heat of the moment when she is lying there and doesn't ask you to put one on, we know things are different.

Does this happen more often because you live there?

I'm asking because I want to see if most of these girls just want to get knocked up so they can have a sugar daddy to support them or maybe they have hopes of going to the US or just want you to be with them for a llong time.

Since I had the big "V" job done, I let all the chicas know right away, so I'm the only one who is concerned about using a condom or not.
I really haven't had it happen to me but a couple of them have made it known that "matramony" is a subject they wouldn't mind discussing. I tell them to get to know me and my snoring and they'll understand why I've gone thru 3 wives already. I also tell how much Ch*ld support I pay and that makes them realize that I don't have much left over for them.
No, its just a informal "novia" kind of thing. I know they have others and they know I have others. Works out nice.

Firstly, I haven't met any girl who wanted to do it without a condom, so I haven't seen aybody wanting to 'trap' me into marriage in that way. I think the main reason they ask is because they need to ask SOMETHING, to keep a conversation going for a bit before they ask if you want 'compania.'

One advantage of living here is that the bargaining process is much more in my favor than if I didn't live here. One reason is that they know right away you aren't right off the turnip truck. Another thing is that I usually tell them I have only X amount at my apartamento and even though they are MUY GUAPA, I can't pay more than (either 15 or 20 mil colones depending on how hot she is) no matter what. It has worked almost every time.

Like LVSteve, I have a drawer full of phone numbers and I have a few who consistantly call ME asking if I want compania, for 15k colones, and THEY come HERE, which is quite a ways from the gulch.

I think one thing MANY of us don't really appreciate, especially those who don't live here, is how MANY of the chicas go home night after night without a SINGLE proposition. My guess is well over half. Perhaps a few of the really slick ones do multiple guys in a night, but the average girl doesn't make a connection on an average night, I would wager. I have found that if I am pleasant and seem 'normal' to them, they will almost always settle for 20 thousand colones or less. And if not, there are 50 other chicas that will, so who cares?

IN CONCLUSION (election year rhetoric) I would say that yeah there are schemers but the average chica isn't any more of a con artist than the average monger. Perhaps that's faint praise? Anyway, I am glad I live here and I find I pay less and get more as time goes on.

Since I have now lived here for a year,I guess I should chime in.There are certainly benefits to living here.A chica is far less likely to rip you off by giving poor service because she knows it will be bad for her future income.They also are more inclined to accept less money because you can be a "regular" which is easier for her than searching the BM for new business.I don't think that guys who live here are more suseptable to the pregnancy trap than guys in the States.Remember that a valued prize amongst the girls here is a Green card or Visa to get to the promised land.It's really interesting that we Gringos are pulling all the strings we can to get out of the States for a shrt trip here or forever and the chicas are pulling out all stops to get into the States.
