I was wondering if anyone has this problem? I'd tried to call a local CR cell number using the usual international code (00) followed by 506 and the seven digits of the cell number. The line always end up dead. I'd tried calling a CR telephone operator who verified that the number does exist because they called and spoke to the person. But they cannot connect me through unless it's a collect call. I was also informed that from March 20 there will be an additional digit of 8 when dialing.

Is there something I'd missed out?

Any help is appreciated.

The additional digit will be 2...after 3/20/08you will need to dial
011-506-2 and the 7 digit number

Thanks El Silencioso but I'd forgot to mention I was dialing from the UK and not the US so the international code from here is 00.

The cell phone you were trying to call was probably not set up to make and receive international calls. That is an option when setting up your cell phone service.

I've sorted it out by using a number to make cheap international calls.

Actually 2 is for land lines, for cell phones th additional digit wil be 8.

I have heard that the additional digit will be a repeat of the first digit of the phone number. For example, if someone has the number 553-xxxx, you will dial 011-506-5-553-xxxx. If it is, for example, a phone number such as 819, it will be 011-506-8-819-xxxx.

The additional digit will be a 2 if a land line and an 8 if a cell phone.
