In my five trips to CR, I have always stayed downtown, which maybe makes it too easy not to get the ambition to get out of the city and see the rest that CR has to offer. The flip side of this is, of course, the limited availablity of the chicas.

For my next trip, I am thinking about staying near the airport where it may be cleaner, quieter, and much closer to some of the touristy things I want to experience.

My question is, if I pull a chica out of the likes of the BM or KL and take a 20-minute cab ride to a hotel outside the city (which then requires a 20-minute ride back for her) is it typical that the chica will want more compensation for that extra travel time?

Thanks in advance.

Myself, after 5 years staying in downtown San Jose, I finally escaped and now hang out in Santa Ana. I wish I would have done it 5 years ago. I did the whole tour and looked at a lot of towns, and picked here. There are places Way cleaner and Way quieter than SJ and Waay more pleasant to stay. Alajuela and vicinity is very cool too and I believe healthier to live. I don’t have any qualms to walk home from my bar at midnight.

It depends on your vagenda. If you are a typical sex tourist it would be a pain in the culo to stay out of town. The busses cost pennies to go most places but hard core grrls are going to want travel time during Prime Time not to mention taxi fare. If you can negotiate with a special friend during off hours or whatever, it costs very little to get around, and a lot of women don’t think anything of going around by bus, it is just the way it is here.

I don’t even like to go to San Jose anymore unless I have to, it is a total shithole imho - there are much nicer places to hang. Sure if I absolutely had to go it might cost me almost $20 to get to centro at rush hour (which I try too avoid) in a taxi, but for the peace I feel for not living in Hosetown - Priceless

Hey Novice. Thanks for the reply. I think I'm ready to stay in a hotel out of town too. I do like San Jose and have spent a lot of time walking around there but I have also walked around a lot in Heridia and Escazu. It really does pay to get out of SJ or at least maintain a good balance.

I can see that if you stayed somewhere near a bus stop, you could hop on a bus and for 20 cents or so, ride to the Merced stop, which is a short walk to the MPs near Paseo Colon and also a reasonable walking distance to some of the other sex stops too.

Are you able to find working girls outside the city? Say in bars or nightclubs.....have you ever been propositioned?

Thanks again for your input.

Crooked,

I was just there last week and stayed in Escazu, wow, what a difference. If you do find yourself downtown, 90% of the girls will want extra for the time back. I did find a couple in KL who would have gone back to my hotel for $50 w/o charging more but I was staying in an upscale place and these weren't upscale chicas so I just took one to Asia and passed on the other. Although now I regret not taking her to Eden. But, I gotta say it was a hassle($15-$20 cab fare each way)and when I told any chick I was in Escazu, immediately they sort of sighed and were put off. If your goal is to monger nonstop, stay downtown. I rather enjoyed being out of the Gulch, and I met a regular Tica and scored a freebie. I don't believe you will find much P4P out of the Gulch but it sounds like NOvice may be able to better answer. ANd I agree with Novice, I was in Santa Ana and the town is very nice, very new, and seems like a cool place. If you want to hard core monger first, you can spend a couple nights downtown first to get it out of your system, and then move to a suburb. Myself, I would like to free myself of The Gulch and stay in the suburbs. It's not easy. Even though I stayed in Escazu, I found myself constantly going to The Gulch all but 2 nights. But the view of the Gulch and the whole scene is much different when you've been staying outside of it. It even makes me ambivalent towards it. I have also stayed in Sabana which is close to The Gulch but outside also.

Hey Novice, what bars do you recommend in Santana? I thought Tequila Joes and Jopias looked cool although I didn't go?

One more bit of advice, I don't know your game or your style, but if you just chill and don't look like your after anything, you will find Ticas interested in you. Outside of El Central, the game is different, yes, they will notice a nice gringo, no they won't have that shark-like predatorial demeanor they have in DR. I wish they did, but you gotta step up and initiate. Have fun and let us know how you did.

PURA VIDA!

Hey Captain - thanks for the detailed response. I like the idea of a couple of days downtown to purge the pent-up urges.

By el Centro, are you referring to a public park in the middle of town - as all these small villages seem to have?

Thanks

Ccr- Centro means downtown. I really don't see how being near the airport is closer to the touristy things, which ones?

I stayed in Escazu and also found myself bored after a day or two and was then spending 12k/day on taxis going back and forth to the gulch. Unless you have amigos, a "novia" or business to keep you occupied you may end up like me longing to get back to the action. Now I just stay in or near the gulch but take day trips out to the suburbs to get away from the chaos and smog, seems simpler (and cheaper) to stay close to what I'm really there for. Plus I'm more likely to find a wingman willing to take a day trip someplace from the gulch.

Novice let's meet up in Escazu or Santa Ana for lunch one day, I'll pm you my dates

Correct-o-mundo! But yeah, CCR, all the small towns have that central park, referred to by locals as the "parque." And I agree with Paco, ALajuela is great to walk around and check out chicks in the day, great to go out at night and hunt for locals(I scored a freebie there my last trip), but as far as staying there and getting "fresh air," Alajuelas is not that place. NOw, Escazu, Santana, Heredia, Belen, now, that I can see.

Like others said, it depends on what you're going for. If you have business and want an occasional chica, then it won't be so bad.

But if you are going to monger, stay downtown. You will have problems bringing girls back daily. It will cost you more for taxis both ways and probably more for the chicas. Sorry, but no DR chica will take a bus.

I stayed in a small rented house in Heredia on my first trip. We had a rental. During the day, it would be about 45 minutes one way due to traffic. During the late night hours, it was like 20 minutes. It wasn't a mongering trip per se. I found CRT about a week or two before, so I wanted to partake. My wingman and I had trouble finding girls who were willing to come to our house. This is what we were hearing after we answered to "Where you stay?":

1. NO. (like 1/3 just flat out refused and walked off)
2. Sorry, it's too far.
3. For security reasons, I don't go to private houses, hotels only.
4. I'll go, but only if my [ugly] friend comes too.
5. It's far, so you will have to pay for 2 hours.

The thief in pic 3158 happily agreed to come over with her amiga (my chica for the hour).

Sorry, it was almost 3 years ago, so my memory is a little fuzzy.

I live in Santa Ana, and it is often times a chore to get girls to come back. more often than not, I end up taking them to a short time. Which, if you think about it, costs as much, or maybe even less than cab fare + return fare + the extra time...

As for finding pros (or semi-pros) outside the gulch, it's possible, but you have to be more diplomatic. I've been propositioned in bars a few times, but it's not something you can count on.
