I don't know where in the USA you're from, or what kind of bars you go to, but what I get in the 'gulch' is a damned sight weaker than what was poured in bars 'back home' in Northern California.


That was exactly my point, the gringo gulch bars are known for underpouring, whereas if you go to a normal bar you'll get a pretty stiff drink, as the alcohol is actually cheaper than the mix.

I was just criticizing your use of "everyone in CR" to describe the HDR and SL :P

Point taken... sorta. I do get out of the gulch, but I can't say I often go to Tico places just to drink. And when I do, I don't usually drink anything but beer. So yes, I guess it's my limited exposure to the Tico-bar-non-strip-club-non-brothel mixed drink.
