The flights are in the $500-600 range out of NY, versus $300.

Is there any kind of festival or something?

The only things I can remember that occur in February are some fairs and carnivals in various towns. None large enough to cause a big increase in airline fares.

I believe that is the week most of the school K*ds (i.e. winter vacaction in some parts) have off which creates an extra surge $$ in travel. Well thats my theory.

try a search on hotwire they let you do a month long search and you can see each day. reason why no idea...
