However, if you are going to Zona Blue. You are better off paying in dollars than colones. 42USD vs 22K Colones. You save $2 off the bat.

The actual savings is 55 cents  The current exchange rate is about 517.

Well, the exchange rate has been declining, just not as fast as it once was (largely because the dollar has been declining at nearly the same rate as the Colon), but you have to realize that Tico's don't change their philosophies very quickly. The exchange rate could be going up and they'd still want to be paid in dollars because it takes so long for them to come off of that meme.

The 22k colones is $42.55 dollars at the current exchang erate not 44 dollars.

If you are particularly tight paying the girls in colones at a 500 to 1 exchange saves you 3.4% so paying 50k colones instead of $100 bucks will save you 3 buck or so.

Even Tico's prefer Dollars for the most part, because the ever declining (for them) exchange rate means dollars hold their value longer if you aren't going to spend it right away. Most Tico's who work for americans prefer to be paid in dollars because of this.

When was the last time you checked the "ever declining (for them) exchange rate " :?: The colon has held the same rate against the dollar for the past year.

I have noticed for about the last two years it has exactly been tracking the dollar...... is it pegged to the dollar, free floating, or is just declining at the exact same rate as us?
