One of the fun and challenging things about learning Spanish is that each country and region has its own idiom, its own slang and its own unique pronunciation. C.R. is no exception.
Here's a handful of new words I learned on my most recent trip. Keep in mind that not all words/phrases are suitable for use in polite company.
Chunches = "Stuff..." as in "Tengo mis chunches." (I've got my stuff).
Carepicha/ cara de picha/ carapicha = Literally "face of C*ck," the tico equivalent of "dickhead."
Maciver/McGyver = multi-purpose pocket tool, Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman.
Hueputa, literally hijo de puta = Literally "son of a whore," this phrase is an all-purpose expletive.
Bompis = Current slang for ass cheeks/nalgas/buns
Sarpe' = Last drink of the night, "nightcap."
Learn Spanish! It's fun!
