If I remembered correctly from college is that Spain speaks Castillian Spanish..refer to proper Spanish. This is what I study in college. Here in Texas we have many Mexicans and they have combine Mexican Spanish to Texas English and thus you have a "Tex-Mex" Spanish.
Castillano is a dialect used in part of Spain, and when my ex favorita / novia from Nicaragua told me when she corrected my Spanish, she said hablo Espanol correcto, hablo Castellano.
And as the poster wrote earlier, comes a time in Pimsleur when they stop using Castellano and use Espanol.
BTW, had a relativelly easy time understanding another Nica that I took back to Hotel Presidente (just arrived), but I've had a very hard time understanding my two Nica favoritas that have lived the last ten years in Costa Rica.
And I've been known to talk with chicas for an hour of more if they talk slowly. We were talking at New Cafe with Roxana when her friend walked by, but once we invited her, I didn't really understand too much of their conversation when she reverted to speaking at normal speed.
