There's an American guy who hangs out near the del Rey. My first encounter with him, he guided my blind ass into the Blue Marlin via the side door on avenida primera. He introduced himself as Rudy Washington. I subsequently learned that he has a number of names/aliases.

He often wears a running suit, but other times dresses in business attire. He can get you bad party favors, bad girls, good directions, bad taxi drivers or whatever. He's a hustlah, nothing more, nothing less.


As has been written here, SJ has more than its share of hustlers. The California Real Estate Guy comes to mind. Also, beware of hustling taxi drivers who will offer you everything under the tropical sun; girls dr*gs, cheap hotels, nightclubs etc. Caveat emptor.

The guy I mentioned is black and I did see him at IDEM. He seemed nice and friendly, but I didn't need his services since I'm a CRT member and I have the map There's this old fellow maybe sixty years, skinny and short, good english, handing out cards and he asked me for a few hundred colones. I think I should have gave it to him. However, the cards he gave out were NF which I went to everyday. I didn't need a card for that.

Some of the taxi drivers are as bad as those guys!
I remember walking to a strip club with some friends at night and a taxi was driving by and asked if we needed a ride, we refused and continued walking. The guy then followed us. In the club the waiter comes over and says he just had to pay the commission to our taxi driver!
I told him that we came on foot and that the taxi driver was telling him bullshit.

I don't know what constitutes a "real pistol" but I would agree that he was lucky not to get robbed. Shot in the head is a little extreme, however.
I would not let some random person take me all over a foreign town in search of "working girls."

I ran into the dude too. He was showing some other guy around and then hit me up for some cash. Was nice to him said no thanks. Seems to be the thing down there was hit up by 3 or 4 guys trying the same thing. Even the guy just trying to help you in to a taxi wants his cut..... just a pain in the ass........tell them to get lost....
