Phoenix Rising,

I appreciate the correction as it seems I was misinformed by several local merchants. Perhaps Creditomatic makes accommodation for larger users that they are unwilling to make for local small establishments.

Whatever the reason for the discrepancy I appreciate the correction.

Vannessa also asked me if it was OK to charge colnes instead of U.S. If given the option always say U.S. I have no problems with SL or its staff, I like them all. Next time Im there I will make sure to pay cash or have U.S currency charged.

Only a guess here but I would imagine creditomatic or MC/Visa charge merchants a higher discount rate/ transaction/conversion fee for non - colones transactions in CR. This may be because the business account to be credited is a colones based account and a conversion has to take place on the back end. The big guys are able to negotiate better deals because of their sales volume and may not feel the extra fees. But the small businessman has to watch his merchant statememt closely, and if he sees he can save a few shekels by transacting in colones - why not?

For us, though, prob a good idea to always request a CC transaction be made in dollars before the merchant swipes it. If they can do it and are willing to do it, then we save the shekels.
